Zhenjie Zhang Brings Data Mining Experience to ADSC

Dr. Zhenjie Zhang joins ADSC as a Research Scientist with expertise in data mining. He recently completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore. He received a B.S. from Fudan University in 2004.

At ADSC, Dr. Zhang's research will center on differential privacy in medical records, a project that will be led by ADSC Director Marianne Winslett.

Dr. Zhang's doctoral research focused on discovering robust clustering on uncertain data. The privacy project will reverse this process by adding noise to the results of the analyses of the data in order to protect privacy and guarantee the preservation of most significant statistical information. While privacy is one of the most popular research topics, this project is very different because ADSC researchers will work with hospitals and biologists directly. The goal is to be able to release some privacy-preserved real data to the research community and contribute to the advances of new medical techniques.

Dr. Zhang's research interests cover a wide spectrum across data management, data mining, and machine learning. He has published more than 20 research papers on major venues in computer science, including SIGMOD, VLDB and ICML. Dr. Zhang has served as a program committee member for KDD 2010, WWW 2010, and VLDB 2010 and was a recipient of President’s Graduate Fellowship of Singapore in 2008.
