Dr. Byung-Won On joins ADSC in order to work with Dr. Kevin Chang on the Augmented Reality Information Search Engine (ARISE) project. The ARISE project aims to "mash up" real world experience with information organized from the virtual world. The goal is to create mobile apps with information about any real world entity.

Byung-Won On earned his Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, in 2007. After his graduation, he worked as a research intern at AT&T Labs – Research, Florham Park, NJ, USA. The focus of his research centered on entity resolution and data quality problems.

In February 2008, he began a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada.  In June 2009, he joined to School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University. During his post-doctoral years, he worked on social network analysis.

He has also been a program committee member in database and data mining conferences such as the International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) and International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM). His primary research interests lie in entity resolution and data quality, social network analysis and mining, and unsupervised clustering methods.
