Bernard Ghanem

Bernard Ghanem is an Adjunct Senior Research Scientist with the Advanced Digital Sciences Center. He also has an adjunct appointment with the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois. During his five-year tenure at the University of Illinois, he worked as a research scientist in the Computer Vision and Robotics Lab at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, advised by Prof. Narendra Ahuja. He was awarded the Henderson Graduate Fellowship as well as Computational Science and Engineering Fellowships that recognized his achievements in academic research. Dr. Ghanem co-founded Fashion Latte Inc., which uses patent pending computer vision and machine learning techniques to allow users to browse online apparel catalogs efficiently and in a visually intuitive manner.

Research Interests: Computer vision and machine learning, including modeling of dynamic objects in video, development of efficient large-scale optimization and randomization techniques, and study of the perceptual elements of image quality and saliency and their relationships to low-level image properties.
